David Thomas Smith, Anthropocene

David Thomas Smith is one of the few photographers who directly names the Anthropocene as his subject of concern. His ANTHROPOCENE series begins by quoting Paul Crutzen one of the authors responsible for suggesting the term “anthropocene” as the name for a new geological era dominated by human activity.

Smith creates large digital composites from satellite images. Weaving images of the infrastructure of capitalism into photographs according to a pattern with the final image resembling a Persian rug.
